Chair's Message - Kiami Rogers

Dinner SpeakerAs the fiscal year draws to a close, it has been our mission to return more value to our membership. Have you received more value from the Dallas Section this year?

Did you attend April’s Professional Development meeting?  If you didn’t then you missed out on a chance to win a registration to the ASQ World Conference hosted in Houston – valued at over $900.  Congratulations to Doug Kessler, who was the proud recipient of this registration.  In addition, in appreciation for his continuous support, Levent Kahveci, the section Internet Liaison, was also awarded a registration to the world conference.

A key part of returning value to you is understanding and executing the opportunities for improvement. We want to know your suggestions and we greatly appreciate your feedback.

Our Vision: The Dallas ASQ Section 1402 is the leader of quality and performance excellence for the Dallas area.
Our Mission: It is our Mission to provide the information, forums, certifications, and networking that enhances members’ value.

Several of you have inquired about more learning opportunities.  You can visit our sharepoint site to view a calendar of upcoming events at: Events Calendar

In particular please note the following area seminars and conferences we are proud to communicate:

In addition, this month instead of our normal Professional Development dinner meeting we will be testing one of your ideas by hosting our May professional development meeting, on a different day of the month, and a different time slot.  Come join us for a “Root Cause Analysis” seminar on Friday, May 23rd, from 10am – 3pm.  You can view more information about this seminar at: Seminar Overview

Your registration fee includes lunch.  During lunch, of course, in addition to continuing to raffle gift cards, we will be giving away 2 registrations to the fall “Seminar at Sea” (a 7-day cruise) and 2 registrations to the 2008 Quality Texas Quest for Excellence Conference and Awards!

Come join the 2008 Quality Texas Quest for Excellence Conference and Awards hosted at Horseshoe Bay Resort on June 16-18.   Don’t miss this opportunity to network with recipients of the Malcolm Baldrige and Texas Award for Performance Excellence.  Among the keynote speakers is Jim Pitts from the Texas House of Representatives.  The conference flyer can be viewed at: Conference Flyer
Registration can be found at: Registration

Yes, we continue to foster our partnerships in quality.  In addition to the fall golf tournament, we are pleased to co-host, with other ASQ organizations and the Quality Texas Foundation, a “Seminar at Sea” on Carnival Cruise line.  This 7-day cruise has port stops at Grand Cayman, Jamaica, and Cozumel. So MARK YOUR CALENDARS for the last week of October in 2008, bring your family and come celebrate Quality Month with us!   To find out more information and to register, please review the PowerPoint presentation at: Cruise Information

Of course, if you have any questions about the Texas Quality Cruise,  would like to be a part of the cruise planning committee or even a program participant, please do not hesitate to send me an e-mail at:  krogers_asq@verizon.net

We are always looking for volunteers to assist us in achieving our vision. We are dedicated to creating roles and responsibilities small enough to not over-task your busy and demanding lives.  In addition, to get you better acquainted with the role and responsibility we support a mentoring program.  Recently, three new volunteers have been mentoring with the current chairs.  I am pleased to announce the appointment of Chad Simpson as our new Membership Chair; Joe Sofinowski as our new Newsletter Editor, and Allyson Kettler as our new Tutorial Chair.   Since Allyson will be taking over the Tutorial Chair, I am pleased to announce Mike Bottoms has been appointed to Programs Chair. If you are interested in learning how you can be a part of adding value to our membership, then drop me an e-mail at krogers_asq@verizon.net.

This month, I would like to recognize Tim Parrent, our section AV Coordinator, as our Volunteer of the Month.  In addition to supporting the AV needs, Tim was willing to take on an additional responsibility of identifying and scheduling the annual Leadership Team recognition meal.  In recognition for his continuous support, Tim’s registration for the May Professional Development meeting will be paid by the Dallas Section.

In addition, each year we have the opportunity to award two Member Leader Excellence Awards.  Currently, through the end of June, we are excepting nominations.  Please fill out the form, located at: MLEA Nomination Form then email to Steve Fox at stfox@netscape.net

I look forward to meeting you at this month’s Professional Development meeting!
