Chair's Message - Marion Bize - February, 2009

I hope everyone is off to a good start for 2009! Even though we are in a new calendar year, we are now halfway through the ASQ fiscal year. At the January Professional Development meeting, Chair-elect Fred Martin gave an update on the status of our goals and objectives for the year. Each year we identify 6-8 goals to help improve the Section. If you missed the January meeting, you also missed a great presentation on networking from David Rawles. We had a full room listen to David speak about the value of networking and how to maximize our business and social networks – including ASQ! His talk was preceded by an excellent tutorial from Charles Coppage on Résumé Writing.
- Please join us on February 26 for Buddy Cressionnie speaking on “AS9100: Aviation, Space, & Defense Quality Management System Standard Ready for Takeoff”. The new revision incorporates ISO 9001:2008 so everyone can learn from this session. Click here to register for the February meeting. Details are in the Professional Development Meeting section of the newsletter; early registration runs through February 22. Please visit www.asqdallas.org and our calendar to get the latest information on events.
- We are implementing a Mentor program for new Section members. If you are an “experienced” member of ASQ and are interested in serving as a mentor, please contact Kiami Rogers .
- The deadline for Scholarship applications is February 28, 2009. Section members and their families are eligible to apply. Also, we need a few members to participate on the committee to review the scholarship applications; contact Scholarship Chair Seshu Pabbisetty .
I hope you will consider volunteering with the Dallas Section, whether you can spend a few hours or only a few minutes each month. Volunteering with the Section is a great way to meet people, gain leadership experience and earn Recertification Units at the same time. Please visit this link to view open positions or contact me to find out which committees need members. One of our goals is to continually improve by implementing suggestions from our members. We always welcome input from you. Please email me at marion.bize@alcatel-lucent.com with your suggestions.
Our Vision: The Dallas ASQ Section 1402 is the leader of quality and performance excellence for the Dallas area.
Our Mission: It is our Mission to provide the information, forums, certifications, and networking that enhances members’ value.
