Chair's Message - Frederick Martin - February, 2010

Fred Martin

Hello ASQ Dallas Section Members,

March is the time for basketball; March Madness is just around the corner. I hope everyone has populated their DOE’s and have crunched the numbers to predict their final four participants and the ultimate winner. What a great opportunity for a team to showcase performance excellence. If you don’t perform, you get to go home.

I was watching a show the other day and it featured a company that manufactures bullet-proof business suits. The management had an interesting practice as part of the new employee orientation. Management would require the new employees to put on one of the suits and then they would shoot the new employee to demonstrate the quality of their product and the importance of performance excellence. How many of us are that confident in the ability of our processes to produce quality products that we are ready to take a bullet?

Quality Tools such as DOE and FMEA are essential for building customer confidence and flawless product performances. You can learn details on the use of such tools and download free templates in the Tools and Templates area of the ASQ Website.
